An ancient Chinese counting method, also known as ce, chou ce, or suanchou. Dating back to antiquity, they were recorded during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. Counting rods were actually small sticks made of bamboo, wood, or animal bone, uniform in length and thickness, bundled together for easy carrying. They could be taken out for calculations when needed.
