In youth, believing his skill peerless, he looked down on all but Halcyon and Raven. Upon completing the Changeless Heart, convinced he held a method to save the world, he ignored all persuasion and left the mountain.
Outside, he suffered humiliation. Crane failed to win authority to regulate rivers or repair dikes. Returning to the mountain, he drowned in alcohol and mechanical diversions. After the sect's great calamity, he withdrew completely from worldly affairs.
The tremors in his hands began during his time outside. Now, his mechanical skill is less than a tenth of what it once was.
