The Dunhuang Star Chart, unearthed from the Mogao Caves, is among the earliest known graphical depictions of the night sky in ancient Chinese astronomy, dating to the Tang Dynasty. Structured around the sun's annual path, the atlas segments the equatorial sky into twelve rectangular charts. More than 1,350 stars are carefully rendered using a clear system of symbols.
