These stones were not shaped by nature, nor was the hollow carved by time. Artisans carved the ore into balls for their mechanical crawlers to haul. As the crawlers pushed the stones, the pit grew deeper year by year. From the heights, you can still see them: a stony procession rolling in a single file, perpetually descending the mountain path.
