Huainanzi says: "Before Longmen was opened and Lvliang chiseled, the River rose above Mengmen, overflowing and flowing backward. There were no hills or mounds; high grounds were submerged. This was called the Great Flood. Yu the Great dredged it; this is called Mengmen."
Note: The Yellow River has been dangerous since ancient times. Steep upstream and slow downstream, causing siltation. Wang Zhongtong proposed the method of eddying currents; is the intent to manage the sand? Combining other waters to create a fierce momentum to scour the sand and deepen the river—is this feasible?
