The piece, also known as Yangguan Tune or Weicheng Tune, is recorded in the Chongxiu Zhenchuan Music Scores as originally composed by the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei. The entire piece features one sung refrain followed by three sighs, continuously repeating, and deeply expresses the heartfelt emotions of care and sorrow over parting with a friend.
