The Mohists reside in Peaceful Village, while Flying City sits atop the Heaven Path. The old Cloud Ladder ascended via stone steps into the clouds, built by ancients who carved rocks and laid timber for passage.
After the Qiongqi disaster, the stone steps collapsed, becoming dangerously steep. Travelers had to detour for miles, enduring arduous treks.
As a vital north-south route, its ruin inconvenienced the people. Funds were gathered to hire skilled stonemasons. They carved firm rocks from Mount Taihang into steps, linked them with iron chains, and placed wooden beams in perilous spots to ensure safe passage. The work took a month. From dawn to dusk, hammer blows echoed in the valley, and stone dust filled the air. Spared by wind and rain, the construction was swiftly completed.
Once completed, the ladder stood seventy rods high, winding like a dragon straight into the clouds.
Travelers climbing from Deep Pond can reach Heaven Path in half a day. Descending from Heaven Path to Peaceful Village is effortless. Disciples and commoners save thirty miles of travel, and pilgrims avoid rugged paths.
On clear days, looking north from the ladder, the picturesque Mount Taihang blends with the clouds—a true spectacle. Recorded on this date.
