As recorded in the Rites of Zhou: "On the day of burial, the Fangxiang Priest enters the tomb to drive out Wang Xiang." Since people could not keep the priest stationed at the grave permanently, they instead placed tiger effigies and cypress trees at the tomb to repel such spirits.
