But if injured by the seven emotions, the heart grows restless, and the spirit becomes agitated and unsettled. Hence, weeping from joy or sorrow reveals that the spirit can no longer govern emotion. Appearing possessed, as if by spiritual influence, means the heart has lost its clarity. This is what we now call madness and disorientation.
