Among these eighty-eight Buddhas, fifty-three are drawn from the Sutra of the Two Bodhisattvas, Medicine King and Superior Medicine, and are Buddhas of the past in the Saha world. The remaining thirty-five are from the Vinaya of Certainty, representing present Buddhas across the ten realms. All eighty-eight Buddhas serve as guides of repentance for sentient beings. Thus, reciting The Great Repentance Text can purify even the gravest transgressions and lead one to sincere remorse.
