Among folk beliefs exists the deity Zigu, also known as the Toilet Goddess. Said to have been murdered in an outhouse, she became the spirit presiding over latrines. On her commemorative day, effigies are crafted, and rituals held, often in outhouses or by pigsties. Though a humble household spirit, Zigu is also believed to divine one's fortune. On the fifteenth day of Zhengyue, unmarried women seeking a good match would present offerings in a rite known as "Welcoming the Toilet Deity."
