In the second year of Jianlong, to support southeastern campaigns and supply the capital, the Min River was dug.
Its waters draw from the Wei and Zhen rivers southwest of Kaifeng, feeding into Pipa Chasm ten miles outside the city. The aim is to restore the ancient Grand Canal and merge it into the Ying River.
Work continued day and night. Once complete, the canal may benefit countless lives.
