The book is burnt; only fragments are legible:
The Grand Historian says: I ascended Mount Lu in the south to view Yu's dredging of the Nine Rivers, then went to Taihuang in Kuaiji, up to Gusu to gaze at the Five Lakes; east to inspect Luorui and Dapi, welcoming the River, traveling the Huai, Si, Ji, Luo, and Qu; west to look at Min Mountain and Lidui in Shu; north from Longmen to Shuofang. I say: How vast are the benefits and harms of water!
Note: The benefit and harm of water lie in change. Unpredicted change brings harm; predicted change avoids it; balancing the great trend to prevent change brings eternal peace.
