The Inner Canon states:
"When the Lungs are afflicted by cold, external and internal evil Qi may converge and lodge within, resulting in a Lung-related cough."
In mild cases, it manifests as a cough; in severe cases, as pain or even incontinence. Yet cough can arise from all the organs, not the lungs alone. The lungs govern the skin and hair, and thus are the first to be affected. Lung cough presents with audible wheezing and labored breath; in extreme cases, it may cause hemoptysis.
