"In the nineteenth year of the Kaiyuan era, the Temple of the Grand Duke Taigong was first established, with Liu Hou Zhang Liang enshrined alongside him. Rites were performed on the first Wu day of mid-spring and mid-autumn, with sacrificial offerings and music conducted according to the standards used in Confucian temples. When dispatching troops or appointing generals, officials would formally declare the mandate at the temple. Ten famous generals of antiquity were also honored as the 'Ten Worthies' and enshrined as companions. In the sixth year of the Tianbao era, an imperial edict ordered all provincial military examination candidates to first pay homage at the Grand Duke's temple before traveling to the capital."
