Dog King is the cleverest little dog in the village. He always knows exactly who is most afraid of him, and that is the person he likes to bother.
But one Spring Festival's Eve, the Young Master would not let him bully anyone. Worse, he kept teasing the dog with a flute. So Dog King snuck off into the goose pen for some peace and quiet.
Just then, a cuju ball came flying past the horse shed, over the fence, and rolled straight to his feet.
His eyes lit up. He snatched it up and ran. The children froze for a moment, then all of them took off after him, shouting the whole way.
In no time, the horses were neighing, the geese were screaming, the children were yelling, and Dog King was racing in circles with his tail high in the air.
He looked back once at the noisy, breathless crowd behind him and gave his head a proud little toss:
