The seven stars—Tianshu, Tianxuan, Tianji, Tianquan, Yuheng, Kaiyang, and Yaoguang are named the "Seven Stars of the Northern Dipper" because their formation resembles a ladle used for scooping wine. Among them, Tianshu, Tianxuan, Tianji, and Tianquan make up the body of the ladle, known as the Kui; Yuheng, Kaiyang, and Yaoguang form the handle of the ladle, known in ancient times as the Biao.
