To Sect Master Jiujue,
The Jin army remains locked in stalemate with the Khitan along the Hutuo. When word came that Raging Tides had cut through the enemy lines to bring relief, the whole army took heart.
And yet in recent days, wanted notices for Raging Tides' disciples have appeared both inside and outside the passes. Only then did it become clear that Jin officers and soldiers have repeatedly fallen victim to attacks by your sect. At a time like this, with the fight against the invaders hanging in the balance, all men of resolve under Heaven ought to stand together against the common enemy. Instead, you raid military camps and kill officers, all while thinking yourselves champions of justice. In truth, you defy the law, unsettle the army, and commit crimes too grave to forgive.
Much as I respect your sect's courage and sense of honor, I cannot ignore such lawless acts if military discipline is to be restored and the wider cause held together. I therefore invite you to meet me on the south bank of the Hutuo at midnight tonight, and there settle matters in a fight to the death. I will take your head and use it to steady the army's heart.
