Grinding Notes Take refined iron ore, black as lacquer, hard in texture. Pound it with a water-powered trip-hammer, then grind with a stone roller. Grind for one day, particles like rice; grind for two days, particles like millet; grind for three days, get powder as fine as flour. Further grinding yields no improvement. Then sieve, keeping the light, fine particles – re-grind the coarse ones, striving for uniformity. I have heard, 'The finer the ore, the closer the fire's embrace.' Now I test it.
