"Intestinal wind" and hemorrhoids are associated with the Lung and Large Intestine meridians, which are paired and govern the passage of waste.
Hemorrhoids are said to take five forms, each with its own signs. When intestinal Qi is weak and the pores are left open, wind pathogens can intrude and generate heat.
This heat lodges in the intestines, drying the stool and causing difficult passage, while heat in the blood drives bleeding. When the heat is lower, stool comes first and blood follows. When the heat is higher, blood comes first and stool follows.
If it lingers without healing, hemorrhoids may form.
