As The Jade Book records: "Valiant and brave." The term "biao" describes both a swift gallop and a coat marked with speckled patches. Among Tuyuhun Horses, such markings define the Qingbiao - Azure Dappled Courser.
Legend holds that during the Qin dynasty, the fertile lands of Ganlong produced exceptional steeds known as "Qin Horse." In the reign of Emperor Jing of the Western Han, a vast imperial stud farm was founded in the northwest to raise thousands of these horses. Later, the Tuyuhun people came to pasture here. The Book of Sui recounts: "Tuyuhun lies near Qinghai, where stands a small sacred hill. They believe dragons mate with mares atop it, thus their horses are of dragon blood. It's said a Persian grass-fed stallion once swam across the sea, and sired a dappled colt that ran a thousand miles a day." This legendary colt is known as the Tuyuhun Horse.
Broad of chest and smooth of frame, the Tuyuhun Horse is powerful, yet gentle and easy to tame. Fond of roaming in herds, it always follows a lead stallion. With keen ears and sharp eyes, it is intelligent and loyal, and bonding closely with its kin. It is well-suited for riding and light draft work, and is among the most common breeds in the Central Plains.
