Chang'an, Chang'an. Yutu heard the name often from her companion—the woman who spoke of it as a distant place, her true home. It didn't understand what a "home" was. The moon was the farthest place it had ever seen. But the moon never vanished, and so Chang'an must be just the same—always there, somewhere beyond reach. The woman's gentle hand stroked its fur. In her warmth, Yutu found comfort. If Chang'an felt anything like this, it would gladly follow her there—to a place even farther than the moon.
