Liangzhou Melody is the earliest known ethnic folk tune from the Tang Dynasty, originally a local song from the Liangzhou region. Though the original piece is lost, the Dunhuang Music Score, the oldest surviving pipa notation in China, has helped reconstruct it. Widely popular in its time, the melody inspired over a hundred poems by both commoners and poets. Blending musical and dance traditions of Han and Hu, Liangzhou Melody reflects the dynamic cultural fusion of the Tang era.
