The Palace Guard is the head of the Northern Song imperial guards, known as the "Three Offices" (the Palace Guard, the Cavalry Command, and the Infantry Command). It's primarily responsible for guarding the Imperial Palace and providing close protection to the Emperor. Although the Imperial City Department also takes part in maintaining order within the palace, it's more focused on intelligence functions.
