Today I taught the weavers of Luan City the method of the loom. At the heddle, a worker surnamed Zhang suddenly said the method could be improved.
He said the heddle crossbeam is like an ox-cart, with rope and wood grinding together, causing great loss of strength. Why not imitate a well-side windlass, carve a shallow groove, inlay polished animal bone as a roller, and lubricate with tallow?
I thought his idea crude at first, but following his method, the pedal force was reduced by nearly 30%, and the heddle movement became much smoother. This method is excellent. I will record it in detail.
