First Month, Day 1
Another year has gone by, and my post is as still as a well with no ripples.
New year, new prospects. This year, I must find a way forward.
Second Month, Day 16
For nearly two months now, I have mainly been watching my colleagues at the Ceremonial Office.
From the opening rites of the year to the seasonal banquets to the Changchun Festival, I see them hurrying in day after day, yet never once do I see them leave.
That kind of workload is bound to wear a person down. No good. No good.
Third Month, Day 18
A blessing indeed, a blessing indeed.
I had originally hoped to secure a post in the Commission of the Three Fiscal Bureaus. Luckily, it did not work out, or yesterday's fire might well have caught me up in it.
Come to think of it, I am not much good at figures either. Month after month, year after year, all that balancing of books would finish me. No good. No good.
Fifth Month, Day 9
The Observatory looks busy every day, but in truth, it is a rather easy post.
Still, the moment strange omens appear in the sky, or some important person falls ill, or disaster strikes again and again, the people there are liable to end up taking the blame.
No good. No good.
Sixth Month, Day 22
Luo Wenzhi, Luo Wenzhi, you cannot keep picking and choosing like this. Are you really going to let your days slip away?
Eighth Month, Day 3
I hear Brightlore Hall is looking to fill a vacancy, but there is room for only one. How could I leave Qi Xiang behind here?
No good. No good.
