Celestial Spring Station was first established in the Han Dynasty, originally called "Celestial Spring Post of Xiaogu County, Dunhuang Commandery." After several periods of abandonment and restoration, it was again called Celestial Spring Station in the Tang Dynasty. It's located in the alluvial fan of a mountain range. To the southeast lies a valley where a mountain spring emerges, suspended from a cliff crevice, hence the name "Celestial Spring". People today call it "Hanging Water".
