Few know the truth about the Coffin Keeper Lord. They are not master and servant—but father and son. Once a proud and powerful duo, the two were captured by Aureate Pavilion and forcibly remade into Sleeping Puppets. By some rare stroke of fortune, they managed to retain their consciousness. Unfortunately, the son's bones were shattered beyond repair, leaving him to live confined within a coffin, while the father lost his voice, becoming mute. To outsiders, it seemed as though the voice inside the coffin was giving commands to its bearer. Thus, they were named the Coffin Keeper Lord.
Yet the two of them never accepted their fate as Aureate Pavilion's puppets. Taking advantage of the chaos during Aureate Pavilion's invasion of Qinghe, they fought their way out to freedom. Carrying his son on his back, the father fended off wave after wave of pursuers, finally escaping to a heap of abandoned coffins once used for failed experiments. Since then, they have tried again and again to rebuild the son's body using discarded materials, but success has always eluded them.
In the deep of night, when all is silent, the son sometimes asks from within the coffin:
"Father, do you think we could ever ride horses, walk dogs, and hunt together again like we used to?"
His father says nothing. He merely rests a weathered hand on the coffin's lid, and remains by his side in silence.
