Waters are great or small, near or far. Water originating from mountains and flowing into the sea is called Jing Water. Water branching from others, flowing into great waters and the sea, is called Zhi Water. Mountain ravines, sometimes wet, sometimes dry, are Gu Water. Water from other ditches flowing into great waters and the sea is Chuan Water. Water issuing from the earth but not flowing is Yuan Water. These five waters may be used for benefit or dammed, but they are not constant, and danger lies therein.
Note: Water is the first of the Five Harms. Understand the differences in flow and govern according to the situation.
