Ice Soul finally finished building the door for her third house. Covered in dust, she sneezed.
She didn't understand why her parents insisted she build three houses. All her dozen or so siblings were ordered to build three houses each.
Wasn't one place to sleep and take shelter enough? Three houses also meant three locks. From then on, Ice Soul had to decide every day which house she would stay in.
Just finding the right key for each house was driving her mad.
One day, her parents gathered all the siblings together. Ice Soul finally voiced her question.
Her parents looked at each other and sighed softly.
"A very, very long time ago, when your great-great-grandfather was still alive..."
"Back then, we all had just one home. Coming and going was free and easy."
At this point in the story, it was time for the "suddenly" part. Ice Soul swallowed nervously.
"Suddenly, one day, a group of bandits followed the road and pushed open the door. Everything in the house was stolen."
"Then... what happened?" one brother asked fearfully.
"Everything was gone, of course. The house collapsed, the family wealth was lost."
"So, building three houses is to give us a chance at survival!" her parents took the opportunity to advise. "Only by keeping everyone guessing which house you're in can you possibly save your life."
All the siblings nodded. But Ice Soul still hadn't resolved her confusion.
"What a lame story... Building three houses just gives them more targets, wouldn't the losses be even bigger?"
