Before coming here, she once believed the world existed only in black and white.
Perhaps it was because, at the very dawn of her memory, the man and woman she never even got to call "Mother" and "Father" had hurriedly stuffed her into a wooden box. They left her to drift along the river's current before they could teach her to recognize any other hues.
Hiding in the pitch darkness, she peeked through a small hole in the wood, watching strange, meteor-like flashes of light darting outside. On a whim, she used her tiny finger to plug the hole, and then released it.
Light, then dark. Light, then dark... To her, it was endlessly fascinating.
The arguing voices of the man and woman faded away; the thunderous roars faded away.
Accompanied only by the tranquil babbling of the water, light and shadow became her entire world.
Oh, world, do you truly possess only these two colors?
It was not until she entered Mohist Hill that she discovered the trees were a lush verdant green; the wind a dusty white; and the springs of the Hidden Mountain ablaze with blooming wildflowers. People, too, were full of vibrant colors.
She learned that the bright lights in the distance were actually the fires of war, while the deepest darkness could serve as a sanctuary.
Fortunately, the little girl of that time did not yet know that twenty years later, she would be the one to change the colors of countless people's destinies.
