Ball loved round things. A ball of yarn, a rolling apple, nothing was better than the chase, the pounce, the triumphant bat of a paw. One day, chasing a colorful embroidered ball, he tumbled head-over-paws right onto a playing field. The ball sailed through a set of posts. The roar of the crowd nearly sent him through the roof! But from that day on, he had endless balls to chase, a soft cushion to watch from, and a tasty fish for every goal. Life was perfect. Until the day he saw the tents catch fire. The apple he'd been carrying fell from his mouth, rolling sadly towards the flames. For the first time, Ball didn't chase. He ran. Now, he has a nest of straw and a single, round fruit for company. In the quiet of the night, if he listens hard, he can still hear the cheers.
