Jiu'er's nose could sense the finest jade. Whether hard jade or soft, emerald green or pure white—every precious stone carried its own subtle fragrance. With just a sniff and a gentle tap of her paw, the jade workers would spring into action. Before long, baskets overflowed with treasure, and Jiu'er sat atop the pile, regal and proud. But then—the rushing creek shattered the kitten's dream. No keen nose, no fragrant jade. Only a half-drowned kitten, an empty basket, a broken rope. Jiu'er drifted in the icy water, too weak to swim ashore, too light to sink beneath the surface. Until a shadow beneath her lifted the stone she clung to. It met a pair of eyes—smooth and radiant as polished jade. Fine jade carries no scent, but it can warm a lonely kitten's heart. A kitten missing two legs; a kind soul missing both hands. Together, they leaned on one another—searching for jade, searching for hope.
