The Prince Enters the Formation is an ancient song and dance drama that originated in the Northern Qi and flourished in the Tang Dynasty, composed to praise the bravery of the Prince of Lanling. Book of Northern Qi records: "When the Turks entered Jinyang, Gao Changgong fought them with all his might. In the Battle of Mount Mang, Changgong led five hundred riders into the Zhou army twice, reaching the gates of Jinyong. The siege was urgent, and those on the wall did not recognize him until he removed his helmet to show his face, after which archers were sent to save him, leading to a great victory. The soldiers composed a song for him, which is The Prince Enters the Formation."
