The Wei River winds westward past Brokegate Village, once known as the "Blessed Land of Dragon Eyes." Back in the Tang Dynasty, a dragon vein ran north of the river, facing Chang'an like the twin blazing eyes of a celestial dragon.
Blessed with striking scenery and gifted folk, the village drew many painters who came to capture its beauty on canvas.
But after Huang Chao's rebellion, the people of Qin began to scatter, and the village slowly emptied.
By Emperor Zhaozong's reign, grain prices soared, and countless villagers, with no means to survive, threw themselves into the Wei River. Over time, the riverbank near the village sank into a marshy hollow, and people came to call it "Ghost Gate Sandbar."
