Maternal was pregnant, but she couldn't find any reason to be happy. She didn't know where she could safely bring her pups into the world. The world was in chaos; even humans couldn't find peace, let alone a dog. Maternal traveled a long way, but everywhere she went, she found either drawn blades or fierce villains on horseback. She had no choice but to keep fleeing, avoiding everyone. Her steps grew heavier, and she knew she couldn't go much further. Looking up, she saw a ruined temple. Perhaps there was a way out after all; the ruined temple was warmer than anywhere else. Maternal chose a spot to lie down. In a daze, she seemed to hear the temple grow lively. Two groups of differently dressed swordsmen had gathered in the temple, both mentioning the same date. The sixth, the sixth. Maternal vaguely felt that the date the swordsmen spoke of was drawing near, and the movement in her belly grew stronger. Perhaps this child would be born on the sixth.
