The Brown Eared Pheasant was known as "He" in ancient times. It was seen as a symbol of bravery because of its fierce nature. Ancient warriors often decorated their hats with its feathers, known as a He Crown. The Book of the Later Han records: "The martial cap, commonly known as the Great Cap, features a circular cord without tassels. It is trimmed with blue ribbon and adorned with two pheasant tails standing on either side."
