Also known today as Hui Ink. In the late Tang period, Xi Chao and his son Xi Tinggui fled south to Shezhou, initiating the region's ink-making tradition. In the Song Dynasty, Emperor Huizong renamed Shezhou to Huizhou in the third year of the Xuanhe era. From that point, all ink produced in the region became known as Hui Ink—a tradition that continues to this day.
