Many years ago, the original Bodhi Root was just an ordinary tree. And the Bodhi Sea wasn't a swamp. The Six Cats Monk wasn't a monk yet, and cats couldn't understand sutras yet. When disaster struck the Pagoda of Karma, an old monk fled and came to the Bodhi Tree. Looking back across the bitter sea, uncertain of the path ahead. Suddenly he heard a soft meow, he turned and found six newborn kittens curled together inside a hollow. The monk shed silent tears. The Bitter Sea remained endless. But now beneath the tree sat one old monk, and six tiny, long-tailed disciples.
