Burial is the act of concealment, a means to ride the Vital Qi.
The breath of Yin and Yang exhales to become wind, ascends to form clouds, and descends as rain; yet when it courses through the veins of the earth, it becomes Vital Qi. Life itself is but the coalescence of this Qi. That which solidifies becomes bone, the sole remnant after death. Thus, burial is the act of returning Qi to the bone, thereby sheltering the paths of the living. As the scripture states: "When Qi resonates in the earth, the blessings of the spirits reach the living."

For any tomb guarded by stone lions, one must ensure their heads face the Gate of Life, while their tails sweep the Paths of Gloom. When their eyes gaze upon the Yang, no shadowy malevolence may intrude; when their claws firmly clasp the earth, the departed shall rest in peace. Should their orientation be reversed, the Gateway of Yang shall be barred, the Yin shall stagnate, and the Vital Qi shall fail to circulate.
