Some strays were lucky enough to have all four paws; others had been abandoned miles from home. Some were gravely ill—too tired to fight, their lives fading away within days.
Some cats crossed his path by chance; he fed them for a while, and then found them new families. Others chose to stay with the old man.
Maomao was the first cat he ever rescued.
