South of Karez, an oasis comes into view, lush and verdant. Wind and sand obstruct the vision of all who approach it. Venturing deeper, heat shimmers, and the oasis vanishes without a trace, leaving nothing but endless yellow sand. Crumbling walls and ruins greet all who venture further, long abandoned and devoid of human life. Up high over a sand dune, dry vertical shafts dot the horizon. Legend has it that a military unit once rested here. At sunrise, the horses neighed, and both soldiers and horses gazed toward the east, hence the name Horsehelm Village. Today, the name remains, but the people are gone, and few may remember this place.
