In the early Tang period, Tang and the Yiwu Kingdom had no relations, and the Moheyan Desert road was blocked. The Tang controlled the southern section of this road, establishing five beacon towers for warning. Among them, the beacon tower closest to the front lines, most critical, with the largest garrison, and most famous, was named the Fifth Beacon. Consequently, the Moheyan Desert road was named after it, called the "Fifth Road".
