Lu Shang, gray and weathered, cast his line in the Wei. Not for fish, but for a worthy lord. When the Lord of the West set out to hunt, the oracle declared, "No beast shall you take today, but the pillar of a kingdom." And so, upon the riverbank, he met the old angler. They spoke, and joy stirred in the lord's heart. "My forebear once foretold: 'A sage shall come to Zhou, and Zhou shall rise.' Have I not waited long for you?" Thus he named him Taigong Wang, meaning "the Grand Duke's long-awaited", and brought him home as his teacher.
