Lu Yao, a man of Hedong. His family had tilled the soil for generations. In the second year of Kaiping, he joined the army on campaign.
Over thirty-eight years of service, he rose step by step to the post of Supervisor. Though he never broke an enemy line nor slew an enemy general, in all the grain and fodder that passed through his hands, there was never once an error.
He marched with the army on many campaigns. At Yunzhou, at the siege of Taiyuan, and at the battle of Yangcheng, he was there among the ranks, and never once turned back in the face of danger.
In the third year of Kaiyun, stirred by the call of the wandering heroes, he escorted provisions to Zhongdu Bridge.
No place will be given him in the histories, nor any line in the rolls of merit. It is enough that Heaven and Earth, and the millet itself, should know.
