Petition from the Monks of Liangzhou's Temples for General □□□
Since the Guiyi Army's triumphant march westward restored the Hexi lands to Tang rule, we monks have once again been blessed to honor the Buddha statues and revive the sacred Dharma tradition.
In times of famine, General □□□ opened the granaries to feed the hungry; when the fields lay barren, he personally led the effort to divert water from the garrison canal, bringing life-giving irrigation so the people could till the soil once more.
He commissioned the carving of grottoes to safeguard scriptures and precious texts, preserving the teachings of the Buddha for future generations. Moreover, he established schools far and wide, awakening the minds of countless children.
Now that the General's noble spirit has departed, the people grieve with broken hearts. On behalf of all, we humbly beseech:
First, that a solemn open Dharma assembly be held to transfer merit and guide the General's soul to peace.
Second, that a memorial altar be established, where offerings of incense may burn eternally in his honor.
Third, that the General's great deeds be inscribed within the sacred scripture caves, so that his legacy may stand side by side with the Dharma, revered by all generations to come.
