In ancient texts, "Jue" refers to large monkeys or macaques. Northern dialects in China call them "Maliu." Records from the Song Dynasty mention "Maliu" as a type of monkey show. Monkeys have coexisted with humans since antiquity; perhaps they see humans as just another kind of monkey: nothing to fear, nothing different, just friends to play with.
