In the 19th year of the Zhenguan era, the monk Xuanzang returned from India with 520 bundles of Mahayana and Theravada scriptures, comprising 657 texts, spreading Buddhist teachings far and wide. By the 4th year of the Kaiyuan era, the Fahua Temple and Yongfu Temple were established in Qinghe's Sundara Land, housing 75 scriptural collections totaling 1,335 volumes.
Zhuanzhi (fourth son of the patriarch Yang Hui) arrived in Metta Town in Kaiyuan 6th year with disciples including Zhou Zihui, Pan Zigang, and Xie Zhisong. Settling near the Fahua Temple and Yongfu Temple afar, they devoted themselves to Buddhist sculpture. Their early statues of Buddha, Guanyin, and bodhisattvas were technically adept but lifeless. Zhuanzhi declared: "To master Buddhist carving, one must first comprehend Buddhist truth." After intensive scripture study, their later works radiated divine majesty. Stonemason Town, renamed "Mercyheart Town", gained renown, and the Yang, Zhou, Pan, and Xie clans took root. Roots define heritage. A family without records is like a nation without history. This genealogy ensures descendants remember their ancestors' trials.
