Roasting Notes
Initially roasted raw pellets with charcoal fire. Before three quarters passed, they thundered and cracked; nothing was gained. I suspect it is because the outside was dry while the inside was wet, trapping the air.
Later changed to air-drying in the shade for a day, then covering with reed mats and steaming over a slow fire to gradually remove moisture.
Finally placed in the kiln, with firewood piled high for calcination. The heat scorched the face; maintained an orange-yellow fire for four hours.
Upon removal, the sphere was hard as stone, ringing with the sound of metal when struck!
