The Song custom held that "Wontons for the Solstice, Botuo (a noodle soup) for the New Year." In Kaifeng, households often ate wontons on the winter solstice. According to Zhou Mi's Old Affairs of Wulin, the city closed markets for three days during this time, called "preparing for the festival," and families offered wontons in ancestor rites.
